Omara Parker scored a team-high 23 points in a loss to Missouri State on Sunday afternoon.
SPRINGFIRLD, Mo. (Dec. 18, 2011)-Casey Garrison scored a game-high 28 points on 11-of-14 shooting, including a perfect 5-for-5 from three-point range to lead host Missouri State to a 104-74 thumping of Morgan State in a non-conference game on Sunday afternoon at the John Q Hammons Arena.
Christina Shorter finished with 17 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, Jaleshia Roberson had 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from three-point range and Whitney Edie chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds for the Lady Bears, who improved to 3-0 all-time against Morgan State.
Morgan State (2-5) was led by Omara Parker, who came off the bench to score a team-high 23 points, while Tracey Carrington added 13 points in a reserve role on 9-of-9 from the free throw line and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. DeKeisha Mathis added 11 points for Morgan State, which has lost a season-high three consecutive games.
The 104 points surrendered by Morgan State marked the first time in Morgan State head coach Donald Beasley's seven year stint at Morgan that an opponent reached the 100-point mark.
Missouri State (6-3) used runs of 10-2 and 9-0 to start the game and take a quick 19-5 lead just four minutes and 35 seconds into the first half.
The Lady Bears then used a 15-4 spurt to force a Morgan State timeout and take a 34-9 advantage, following three straight three-pointers by Missouri State, two of which came from Roberson.
Missouri State wasn't done yet. The host Lady Bears would knock down three more consecutive three-pointers to cap off a string of six straight three-pointers for the host Lady Bears, pushing the lead to 42-13.
Morgan State trailed 64-37 at the break. Garrison and Roberson both had 15 points to lead the Lady Bears of Missouri State, while Parker and Mathis had eight points apiece to lead Morgan State.
Missouri State knocked down eight three-pointers in the first half with Roberson connecting on five of them.
A Garrison three-pointer with 5:10 remaining in the game, triggered a 14-4 run by the host Lady Bears over the next four minutes, extending Missouri State's lead to its largest of the game at 34 points (104-70) with 2:05 left.
For the second consecutive game Morgan State's bench outscored its opponent, this time outscoring Missouri State 49-25. Morgan State also recorded 11 steals with Kelsey Jones finishing with a team-high three to lead the visiting Lady Bears.
Missouri State held a 48-36 advantage in rebounds and had a 28 assists to Morgan State's eight.
The Lady Bears will have a short turnaround as they will return to action on Monday evening when they visit the University of Arkansas in a non-conference game at 7 p.m. CT.
