Hampton Notes
BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 10, 2011)-The Morgan State women's basketball team will put its unbeaten MEAC record on the line when it plays host to defending MEAC Tournament champion Hampton on Monday evening at Hill Field House. The Lady Pirates hold a 19-11 series lead, but Morgan State has won six of the last eight meetings.
The Lady Bears (7-6, 2-0 MEAC), who closed out 2010 dropping three of their final four contests, opened up the New Year with a 56-46 victory over visiting Howard on Saturday. Theresa Davis scored a team-high 15 points, while Brittany Dodson added 12 points in the win. Morgan State improved to 3-3 at home this season.
Morgan State, which is off to a 2-0 MEAC start for the second consecutive season, has been led by Dodson, who is averaging 12.5 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. Erin Hawkins is scoring 9.6 points, while Davis is chipping in with 8.4 points and a team-high 7.3 rebounds.
The Lady Pirates (9-5, 2-0 MEAC) who also enter the contest with a 2-0 league start, are coming off a 76-56 road win at Coppin State. Nicole Hamilton came off the bench and recorded a game-high 22 points, while Chikilra Goodman added 16 points in a reserve role. Quanneisha Perry finished with a double-double, scoring 11 points and pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds.
Perry's 15.1 points per game leads five Lady Pirates who are averaging double figures in scoring. Jericka Jenkins is scoring 14.1 points, while Hamilton (12.8), Melanie Warner (10.4) and Choicetta McMillian are also averaging double figures.
