Shirley Breaks Weight Throw Record; Earns Field Athlete of the Meet Award

ALBANY, N.Y. (Jan. 24, 2011)-Candace Shirley earned the Field Athlete of the Meet Award at the ninth annual Great Dane Classic, following her record breaking day in the weight throw on Friday night. The meet, hosted by the University of Albany, was held at the Armory Track & Field Center.

 

Shirley, who captured the weight throw event, set a new meet record with a throw of 60-01.00 (18.31m), breaking former Lady Bear Allison Randall's mark of 17.95m set during last year's 2010 meet. Shirley's toss was also a personal-best for her.
