The Opening Tip
Morgan State, the 2010 MEAC champions, will host South Carolina State in an ESPN2 televised matchup on Saturday, Jan. 15 at 5 p.m. at Hill Field House in Baltimore, Md. MSU 7-7 will attempt to build upon a 78-72 conference win against Hampton on Saturday. South Carolina State fell to Delaware State 62-60 Monday night in Orangeburg. The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 5-10 overall and 1-1 in the MEAC.
The Last Time Out
BALTIMORE, Md. – DeWayne Jackson scored 21 points and Kevin Thompson added 19 points to help knock off Hampton 78-72 on Monday night at Hill Field House.??Jackson, ranked among the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's leading scorers (16.7 points per game) was 5-of-17 from the field and converted 11-of-12 free throws.
South Carolina State's Last Game
ORANGEBURG, S.C. - JUCO transfer Presano Bell poured in a career-high 18 points and grabbed six rebounds, while junior guard Brandon Riley chipped in 11 but it wasn't enough as South Carolina State dropped in tough 62-60 decision to Delaware State Monday in MEAC play.

♦ The Bulldogs hold a 39-27 advantage in the series since the series began during the 1971-72 season. MSU has won 7 of the last 9 meetings against the SCSU since 2006.
♦ Jason Flagler scored a game-high 24 points and the Bulldogs shot a blistering 57.1 percent from the field to help drop the Bears 71-68 at Hill Field House on February 15, 2010 in an ESPNU televised game. The loss snapped Morgan State's 10-game winning streak, and halted the Bears' 12-game regular season conference win streak.
♦ Kevin Thompson had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Morgan State claimed its second consecutive NCAA tournament berth by beating South Carolina State 68-61 on March 13, 2010 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title game ... League player of the year Reggie Holmes added 17 points for the top-seeded Bears (27-9) ... MSU shot 53 percent to overcome 20 turnovers and avenged their only regular-season conference loss by becoming the first repeat MEAC champion since Hampton in 2001 and '02 ... Khalif Toombs had 15 points to lead the third-seeded Bulldogs (18-14). They were denied their first NCAA berth since 2003 after shooting 31 percent and committing 19 turnovers.

♦ MSU junior Kevin Thompson is set to lead the Bears this season...the 6-foot-9 forward was the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and was the league's most dominant post player during the 2009-10 season ... As a sophomore, Thompson averaged 12.7 points per game, 11.9 rebounds (4th best in the nation) and completed the season with 22 double-doubles (pts & rebs). He has started the 2010-11 season by averaging 13 ppg and 9.3 notching eight double-double performances in 13 games, including a 25 points and 10 rebounds outing against LaSalle (Nov. 20) and will enter the Saturday's contest fresh off of recording 19 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Hampton.

♦ DeWayne Jackson, the 2010 MEAC Rookie of the Year, has posted 108 points in the Bears' last four games (27 ppg), including his second-best scoring performance of the season when he led the Bears with 29 points at Baylor on Jan. 4th.
♦ Morgan State completed the 2009-10 season as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference champs, it marked the Bears second consecutive MEAC Title and they also captured their third consecutive regular season title.
♦ Morgan State was picked to finish as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference champs again this year … the Bears received 20 first place votes and totaled 476 points to garner the league's top position for the second year in a row.
♦ Morgan State has posted a 1-5 record when two Bears score in double-figures in a game ... The only time the Bears posted a win with two player scoring in double-digits was against Robert Morris (Dec. 30).
♦ The Bears had four players score in double-figures during their win against Hampton on Jan. 10 ... DeWayne Jackson (21), Kevin Thompson (19), Aric Brooks and (18), Ameer Ali (10).
♦ Morgan State's junior captain Ameer Ali replaced Kevin Thompson in the starting lineup when the Bears defeated Robert Morris at Hill Field House on December 30, 2010 ... it marked Ali's first start of the 2010-11 season … Ali has started in the last four games.
♦ Following their matchup with S.C. State, the Bears will have seven days to prepare for Delaware State on Saturday, January 22 at Hill Field House ... Morgan State was able to grind out a 68-65 victory during the last meeting between the teams on February 17, 2010 in Dover (Del.) at Memorial Hall … Kevin Thompson had 14 points and 10 rebounds -- his 17th double-double of the season for Morgan State, which finished with a 40-21 rebound advantage … Reggie Holmes scored 15 of his game-high 17 points in the second half
