Varsity “M” Club, Inc. Announces 2010 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees

BALTIMORE, MD – The Varsity "M" Club, Inc. of Morgan State University is proud to announce its 2010 Athletic Hall of Fame induction class. The 2010 class of honorees includes: former football players Darrell Coulter and Robert “Bobby” Hammond; basketball player Harry Johnson; lacrosse player David Raymond; swimmer John Turner; and current athletic administration/staff member Arno Adams.

The 2010 class of inductee will be honored at the 23rd Varsity “M” Club Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony on Friday, October, 1, 2010 at the Morgan State University Student Tyler Ballroom. Tickets for the banquet are $50.00 and include admission to the Morgan State University football game on Saturday, October, 2, 2010, at 4:00 PM between Morgan State and Bethune-Cookman College at Hughes Stadium. Brief bios of each inductee:

Arno Adams, Administration/Staff (1957-present)
Adams has served as the Morgan State University athletic equipment management for over fifty years. He is the only athletic staff member to have served during the Hurt and Bank eras, transition from Division II to Division I and the current “resurgence” era.

Darrell Coulter, Football (1979-1982)
Coulter led the Bears to the 1979 MEAC Championship and was the 1979 MEAC Offensive Player of the Year as quarterback. He ended his career holding the school records for most passing attempts (601), completions (277), yardage (4,131) and touchdowns (25), and currently ranks fifth in total passing yards.

Robert "Bobby" Hammond, Football (1971-1974)
Hammond is ranked second on the all-time rushing leader list with 2,548 yards. He ended his career holding the school records for rushing yards and rushing attempts (590), was a three time First-Team All-MEAC selection, and named a Black College All-American.

Harry Johnson, Basketball (1958-1962)
Johnson ranks fourth in fourth in school top career scoring averages (20.0 points) and holds three of the top ten single game scoring records. He was a two-time All-CIAA Conference Team selection, and one of only four Morgan players to ever be selected to that team.

David Raymond, Lacrosse (1972-1975)
Raymond was the first out of state lacrosse recruit and finished his career as the all-time leading scorer in Morgan lacrosse history. He was also a 1974 All-American Honorable Mention and 1975 All-American selection.

John Turner, Swimming (1959-1963)
Turner was selected as the recipient of the 1961 Outstanding CIAA Swimming Award, after shattering conference records in the 200 Meter Individual Medley, 200 Yard Backstroke and 100 Yard Freestyle. He was also the runner-up for the same award in 1960, 1962 and 1963.
