BUFFALO, N.Y. (March 18, 2010)-Morgan State's Corin Adams of the women's basketball team is featured in the Faces in the Crowd section of the March 22, 2010 Sports Illustrated, which hits newsstands today.
Adams, a 5-foot-5 native of Brooklyn, N.Y., became the first Morgan State player (male or female) to score 2,000 points. She finished her career as the school's all-time leading scorer with 2,058 points, just 19 more than fellow men's player Reggie Holmes (2,039), who will lead the No. 15 Morgan State against No. 2 West Virginia this Friday in an East Region first round game of the NCAA Tournament at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo.
Adams, who was named 2009-10 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Year, also holds the program's all-time records for career assists (558) and steals (504). This season, Adams also set the school's single-season scoring mark with 581, surpassing the previous school record of 547 points, which she set the year before.
As a senior, Adams averaged 19.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and totaled team-highs in steals(106) and assists (104) and was second in blocks with 22. She led the Lady Bears to a 17-13 mark, including a 12-4 MEAC record, which tied Hampton for second-place in the league standings. The second-place regular season finish is the programs' highest ever. Morgan State which entered last week's MEAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed was eliminated by No. 6 Bethune-Cookman in the quarterfinals.
