BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Morgan State men's basketball team moved up a few positions in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll.

Morgan State improved from No. 20 to No. 17, earning its highest ranking ever in the Mid-Major Top 25 poll.

The squad collected 262 points Monday, which fell ahead of George Mason at No. 18 (218 points) and behind 16th-ranked College of Charleston (276 points). The No.1 position is currently held by Butler (761 points).
The 262 points represented the most votes ever received by a Morgan State team.
The Bears made their first appearance in the Mid-Major Top 25 poll ranked No. 23 on Jan. 26 of this season, marking their first since finishing the 2008-09 season ranked No. 23. Senior guard Troy Smith hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds to help the first-place ranked Bears edge Bethune-Cookman 48-47 on Monday night (Feb. 8), a victory that extended the Bears winning streak to 10 straight. With the win, Morgan State improved to 18-7 overall and 10-0 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

No. 17 Morgan State returns to action Saturday (Feb. 13), when they host non-conference opponent Winston-Salem State for a 4 p.m. matchup at Hill Field House.
