Morgan Opens Season Placing 9th at FDU Invite

ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. (Nov. 2, 2009)-The Lady Bears opened up the 2009-10 bowling season by winning seven matches, while losing six and placed ninth out of 12 teams at the Fairleigh Dickinson Invite over the weekend.

 

The weekend did not begin on a positive note on Friday, as the team lost four of their first five matches. But beginning Saturday, Morgan State won six of the final eight matches.

 

On Friday, in the Baker format, the Lady Bears won one match and lost four. They lost to New Jersey City (661-792), Delaware State (734-783), Bethune-Cookman (602-615) and Sacred Heart (702-781). The Lady Bears' lone victory came against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (746-697).

 

On Saturday, in the traditional team games, they won three matches and lost two. Morgan State defeated Long Island (854-704), Florida A&M (846-766) and Kutztown (841-808). They lost to Maryland Eastern Shore (829-889) and Fairleigh Dickinson (813-993).

 

On Sunday, they won three matches without a loss. In the one traditional game, they defeated Adelphi (929-882). In two baker matches best four games out of seven, they won two matches without a loss. They defeated Long Island (4-1) and Florida A&M (4-2).

 

The most outstanding performers for the Lady Bears were Corey Lissik, who placed sixth out of 85 bowlers and averaged 195 with a high game of 275 and Keisheena Waldon, who placed 12th and averaged 183 with a high game of 220.

 

The next competition for the Lady bears will be the first MEAC competition of the year at Spare Time Lanes in Hampton, Va., hosted by Hampton on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 7-8.
