GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Reggie Holmes scored 26 points and Kevin Thompson grabbed 20 rebounds to help #23 Morgan State defeat North Carolina A&T 74-65 on Monday night.
The Bears (16-7, 8-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) jumped out to a 14-4 lead after two free throws by Rodney Stokes with 13:08 left in the first half and didn't trail the rest of the way.
Holmes, who entered the game ranked 5th in the nation in scoring (22.7 ppg), caught fire toward the end of the half outscoring the Aggies 8-0, and his 3-pointer from the top of the helped give the Bears a 37-28 advantage at the break.
The Aggies (7-15, 3-5 MEAC) committed seven turnovers during Morgan State's opening spurt, and finished with 15.
The Bears scored 22 points off turnovers in their eighth straight win, and their 10th straight regular season conference victory.
Morgan State committed 20 turnovers leading to 15 Aggies' points, but outrebounded North Carolina A&T 51-33.
Troy Smith scored 16 points and Thompson finished with 10 for the Bears. Holmes, the MEAC Player of the Week, was 9-of-16 from the field and 4-of-9 from 3-point range.
Thompson, who entered the game ranked 4th in the nation in rebounding (12 rpg), posted his 14th double-double of the season and the 20th for his career.
The Aggies were led by Tavarus Alston with 23 points and Thomas Coleman with 11.
A&T hit a 3-pointer to trim the Bears lead to 63-57 with 1:25 left, but Holmes answered by hitting a 3-pointer and ended up scoring 7 of the Bears last 11 points.
Morgan State will return to action on Saturday (Feb. 6) when they host the Rattlers of Florida A&M (5-16, 2-6 MEAC). Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Hill Field House.

♦ The Morgan State men's basketball team will travel to face Murray State (20-3, 11-0 Ohio Valley Conference) in a televised BracketBusters game on Sat., Feb. 20, it was announced Monday night live on ESPNU during the 2010 BracketBusters Selection Show. The game is scheduled to tip at noon and will be televised by ESPNU. The game will mark the first meeting between the two teams.
