BALTIMORE, Md. (Dec. 29, 2010)-Brittany Dodson scored 21 of her game- and career-high 26 points in the second half and in overtime to lead Morgan State to a 70-66 overtime victory over George Washington on Wednesday night in the second game of the Miami Holiday Classic.

 

With the victory, Morgan State, which hasn't played George Washington since the 1997-98 season, improved to 3-2 all-time against the Colonials and recorded its second win in three meetings against Atlantic-10 opponents this season.

 

Dodson, who shot 8-of-13 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from three-point range, also knocked down 7-of-8 from the charity line, including two free throws with 5.6 seconds remaining in the extra period to secure the victory.

 

Theresa Davis came off the bench and scored 15 points and added a team-high eight rebounds, while Erin Hawkins and reserve Brittany Noel each finished with 10 points.

 

George Washington (5-8), which has lost three straight, was led by Tara Booker's 22 points and game-high 13 rebounds. Sara Mostafa finished with 15 points and Brooke Wilson added a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

 

Morgan State (6-5) began the game with a three-pointer by #Jamesia (Jamie) Smith and got another trey by Brittany Dodson# to take an early 6-1 lead. Booker knocked down the first of her four straight three-pointers, before the Lady Bears countered with a 5-0 run, including a three-pointer by Brittany Noel to make it an 11-4 game.

 

Booker, who kept George Washington close, completed her 12 consecutive points run with her fourth trey in the spurt, cutting the deficit to 18-13 and Sara Mostafa added a basket to bring GW within 18-15 with 9:31 to play.

 

The Lady Bears then used an 8-3 run to extend their lead to 26-18 with 5:18 to play and held a 30-22 advantage at the break.

Davis began the second half with a three-pointer from the right elbow and Dodson added a basket to give the Lady Bears their largest lead of the game at 35-22 with 17:56 left. But the momentum would all go away, as GW erased a 13-point deficit by using a 16-3 run in just six minutes to even the game at 38 all.

The Colonials took a 57-53 lead after a three-pointer by Booker, but Morgan State countered with a 5-0 run to take the lead 58-57 after two Dodson free throws and force overtime.

 

The Lady Bears conclude the Miami Holiday Classic on Thursday when they face host Miami in the title game at 8 p.m.
