Morgan Announced to 2010 MEAC Bowling Championship Field

BALTIMORE, Md. (Dec. 11, 2009)-The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced today the eight-team field that will compete in the 2010 MEAC Bowling Championship on March 19-21, at the Gate City Lanes in Greensboro, N.C.

 

Morgan State (26-30, 14-16 MEAC), which secured the fourth and final spot in the MEAC North Division, has been led by sophomore Keisheena Waldon, who has tallied 4,732 pins in 25 games played for a team-leading 189.3 average. Ashley Milbourne and Corey Lissik have both bowled high games of 255 thus far. Milbourne, who has totaled 4,385 pins, recently bowled a 255 against Maryland Eastern Shore during a MEAC North Division match (12/5), while Lissik, 3,390 pins had a 255 against Howard during a MEAC North Division match (11/7).

 

Delaware State, Maryland Eastern Shore and Hampton all qualified from the northern division, while Florida A&M, Norfolk State, Bethune-Cookman and South Carolina State will compete from the southern division.

 

The MEAC defending champion Delaware State Lady Hornets, who are ranked third in the nation, captured the northern divisional title with a 29-1 mark in MEAC play and 46-10 overall record. The Lady Hornets posted a 15-0 mark in team games and 14-1 mark in Baker games in MEAC divisional play.

 

Florida A&M finished atop of the southern division with a 19-5 record en route to its first-ever divisional title. The Lady Rattlers, last year's tournament runners-up, were 10-2 in the MEAC during head-to-head team games and 9-3 in the MEAC in Baker games. They are currently 29-12 overall.

 

Only the top four teams from each division are eligible to compete in the championship tournament. Howard (7-23), Coppin State (1-29) and North Carolina A&T (4-20) will not compete in the championship tournament.

 

The tournament begins Friday, March 19 with a qualifying round to determine seeding. Teams will then compete in a second qualifying round with Baker games and placed in a double-elimination bracket.

 

Play continues on Saturday with team competing in a best-of-seven Baker series.

 

The 2010 MEAC Bowling championship will conclude on Sunday, March 21 beginning with the semifinal round and concluding with the championship final. Match times will be announced at a later date.
