The Opening Tip
Morgan State, the 2009 MEAC champion, will face its third conference test of the New Year when they match-up against Hampton (2-13) on Monday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the HU Convocation Gymnasium and will be televised by ESPNU.This is the second straight year that the Hampton-Morgan State game at the HU Convocation Center. The game will mark the 27th match-up between the teams.
The Last Time Out
Reggie Holmes scored a game-high 22 points and Morgan State snapped a two-game losing skid with a 90-58 victory over Howard on Saturday. Holmes, who entered the game ranked No. 5 in the nation (23.8 ppg), finished with 23 points and shot 7-for-15 from the floor.
Hampton's Last Game
HAMPTON, Va. - The Hampton University men's basketball team had to withstand a late run, but held on Saturday night to defeat Coppin State 69-67 at the HU Convocation Center to pick up its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) win of the season.
Series History
Monday night's game will be the 27th meeting between Morgan State and Hampton in men's basketball. The Pirates hold a 19-7 advantage in the series. Hampton dropped the Bears twice last season, and have won 3of the last 5 meetings against the Bears since 2007. MSU's last win against the Pirates was during a 66-62 overtime win at Hill Field House on Feb. 25, 2008.

♦ Morgan State senior guard Reggie Holmes will enter Monday's contest averaging 23.6 pointsper game, including three 30 point outings thru 16 games. He currently leads the Mid-Eastern AthleticConference in scoring and ranks in the NCAA Top 10 (ranked No. 5).
Thompson's Hospitality
♦ Morgan State forward Kevin Thompson was named to the Freshmen Mid-Major All-America team by Collegeinsider.com at the end of the last season. Thompson has led Morgan State in rebounding 14times in 2009-10 and 30 times in his career. Thompson is among the nation's leaders in rebounds ... he ranks No. 3 (12.5 rpg) and has posted 25 rebounds in a game which is an NCAA single-game high for this season.

♦The Bears are 7-7 thus far this season against non-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponents.

♦Sophomore Ameer Ali was inserted into the starting lineup for the first time this season when the Bears played at Baylor ... Ali posted 12 points and five rebounds in the first half in the Bears' win at Howard.
♦Reggie Holmes was selected to the Dr. Pepper All-Classic Team where he averaged 24 points per game during the two-day Classic.
♦Morgan State's Reggie Holmes has been named the MEAC Player of the Week three so far this season and Kevin Thompson has also been named three times as Defensive Player of the Week and once as the MEAC Player of the Week.
♦Thompson has led Morgan State in rebounding 13 times in 2009-10 and 29 times in his career.
