BALTIMORE, Md. – Morgan State redshirt-freshman forward Kevin Thompson has been named to the Freshmen Mid-Major All-America team, announced Friday morning by Collegeinsider.com. Thompson becomes the first Bear ever to be selected to the team.
“I am extremely happy for Kevin and the program,” head coach Todd Bozeman said. “This honor speaks to the impact that he has had on our program this year, both offensively and defensively. He has been able to score in a variety of ways including low post scoring, perimeter shots and second chance points. We are excited about Kevin's future with the Morgan State program.”
Thompson was a key contributor and helped the Bears capture their first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship in three decades and earned the program's second consecutive postseason appearance and the first-ever NCAA tournament.
The Walbrook High product averaged 8.9 points per game and was one of the top rebounders in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference averaging 7.1 boards per game. He recorded 15 double-figure games and posted seven double-doubles (points & rebounds) on the season and was selected to the 2009 MEAC Rookie Team.
Rather than assembling first, second, third and fourth team squads, the collegeinsider.com Freshmen Mid-Major All-America team is one team consisting of 21 players. Division I coaches and NBA scouts are part of the selection process, but final decision rests with the collegeinsider.com staff.
