Juan Ortiz recorded a 6-2, 6-1 No. 1 singles win over Bethune-Cookman's Emil Vassilev

RALEIGH, N.C. (April 17, 2009)—The Morgan State men's tennis team suffered a 4-1 setback to Bethune-Cookman in the opening round of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship on Friday morning at the Millbrook Tennis Center. With the loss, Morgan State, who was the No. 2 seed in the MEAC North Division at 4-1, fell to 5-9 overall on the season and was eliminated from the 2009 MEAC Championship.
The Wildcats, who entered the contest as the No. 3 seed in the MEAC South Division, won the doubles point and followed up with singles wins at the number four through six spots. Morgan State senior, Juan Ortiz topped Bethune-Cookman's Emil Vassilev 6-2, 6-1 in a No. 1 singles match, to earn the Bears' only point.
