MEAC CHEERLEADING CHAMPIONSHIP SET FOR CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY

 
WINSTON-SALEM, NC- (March 13, 2009)- The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will host its 2009 Cheerleading Championship Saturday, March 14 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum (LJVM) Annex in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
 
The event will be broadcast live on video stream via www.meacsports.com for the second straight year.
 
Admission to the Cheerleading Championship is $5 per person. Tickets are available at www.meachoops.com, through Ticketmaster outlets nationwide and at the LJVM Box Office.
 
North Carolina A&T won the crown last year after placing first in the Overall Performance and All-Girl Division categories.
 
Winston-Salem State, who participated in the MEAC Cheerleading Championship for the first time, placed second in the All-Girl Division, while Howard finished third.
 
South Carolina State won the title in the Co-Ed Division and were runners-up in the overall performance grouping. Norfolk State earned second place honors in the Co-Ed Division were third in the overall performance category.
 
The Cheerleading Championship, held in conjunction with the 2009 MEAC Basketball Tournament, kicks off “Championship Day”. The women's title game will immediately follow beginning at Noon, while the men's title game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
 
A men's bonus game between Winston-Salem State and North Carolina Central will tip-off at 3:30 p.m. All games will be played at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum (LJVM).
 
 
ABOUT THE MEAC BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
The MEAC Basketball Tournament is a single elimination championship playoff that involves 11 Division I historically black colleges and universities located across the Atlantic coastline: Bethune-Cookman, Coppin State, Delaware State, Florida A&M, Hampton, Howard, Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State, Norfolk State, North Carolina A&T State, and South Carolina State.
 
The tournament will be played at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum (LJVM) in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Both the men's and women's tournament champion receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Tickets are available at www.meachoops.com, by calling the MEAC Office (757-416-7100), through Ticketmaster outlets nationwide and at MEAC School Box Offices.
