Corin "Tiny" Adams earned her second consecutive All-MEAC first-team selection.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (March 9, 2009)-Corin Adams was selected to the All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference first team during Monday evening's Tip-Off Basketball Tournament Banquet at the M.C. Benton Jr. Convention Center. The selections were voted by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
North Carolina A&T's Brittanie Taylor-James was selected as the Player of the Year, while A&T head coach Patricia Cage-Bibbs was named the 2009 Coach of the Year. Sonia Johnson of Delaware State was chosen as the Rookie of the Year, while Whitney Cunningham of Coppin State was named Defensive Player of the Year.
Adams led Morgan State in scoring (18.2) and steals (104) for the third consecutive season, while also holding the team lead in assists (128) and finishing third in rebounds (127) and tied for second in blocked shots with 13. Adams also finished the regular season second in the league in scoring (18.2) and three-pointers made (69), while tied for first among MEAC leaders in led league in assists (4.4), steals (3.6).
Adams, who enters the MEAC Tournament with 1,459 career points, six points shy of moving into second-place all-time at Morgan State in scoring, earlier this season became the 11th Lady Bear to reach 1,000 points, when she hit a three-pointer against Tennessee State (11/22), giving her 1,001 for her career.
The 5-foot-5 native of Brooklyn, N.Y., also fell shy of her second career triple-double, when she scored a game-high 19 points, dished out a career- and game-high 11 assists and added eight rebounds at South Carolina State (2/9).
In an ESPNU televised game at Hampton, Adams took over, scoring a career-high 32 points in the overtime win against the Lady Pirates. Adams, who also entered the Hampton contest third all-time at Morgan State in assists, recorded four assists in the first half to move into second-place, then added three more assists in the second half to become the Lady Bears' all-time assists leader with 341.
Joining Adams on the 2009 MEAC first team was Whitney Cunningham (Coppin State), Amber Bland and Brittanie Taylor-James (North Carolina A&T) and April McBride (Maryland Eastern Shore).
