Morgan State Cheer Squad Qualifies For Nationals

BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Morgan State cheer team is heading back to nationals. After submitting competition tapes to the National Cheerleaders Association/National Dance Association earlier this year, the MSU cheer team was selected to participate in the 2009 NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla.

“We're really excited about this year's team,” said Head Coach Theresa Gibson
The Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships will be held April 8-12 at The Band Shell/Ocean Center/Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach, Fla. The competition will be televised on CBS.

Gibson added, “We're young, so there's plenty of room for growth. There is a wealth of talent in this group. With a little hard work and a lot more self-discipline, this team has the potential to surprise some top contenders.”

"Although the majority of the team are freshman, we believe they have what it takes to compete with favorable results at this year's NCA National Championship's All-Girl Intermediate Division.”

For the MSU Cheerleaders, the appearance at the NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships marks their six berth in the national competition. The Bears have finished in the top 10 in each of their last three trips. MSU will go searching for their first national crown.
