Morgan Drops Third Match of Klassic; Falls to Samford, 3-0

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Sept. 6, 2008)-The Morgan State volleyball team returned to action on Saturday morning with a non-conference match against Samford on the second day of the Kangaroo Klassic. The match would turn out to be the Lady Bears worst performance of the tournament and the season thus far.

The Bulldogs' Sara Sears notched a match-high nine kills and Ashley Adams added eight kills to lead Samford to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-7) victory at the Swinney Recreation Center.

Morgan State (0-7), which was led by Erin Cox's five kills, had just eight kills for the entire match which is a season-low. The Lady Bears, who recorded just one kill in the third set, were also held to season lows in hitting percentage (-.192), assists (8) and digs with 13.

Samford (5-1) meanwhile finished with 38 kills for a hitting percentage of .453, tacked on eight service aces and had 38 digs for the match. The Bulldogs also held a 10-2 advantage as a team in blocks with Sheriden Stangohr and Kirstein Sosnowski having four blocks apiece.

The Bulldogs broke a 2-2 tie in the third set with a 7-0 run to go up 9-2. Morgan State's Erica Turnbull ended the run with the Lady Bears lone kill, but Samford responded with a 14-2 run to take a commanding 23-5 lead.

The Lady Bears close out the Kangaroo Klassic with their fourth and final match of the tournament against Arkansas State at 1 p.m.
