MSU's Adams, Simpson Take Home Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Year Honors At Awards Banquet

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Morgan State University basketball star Corin “Tiny” Adams and senior running back Chad Simpson were recognized as the female and male student-athletes of the year at the 22nd Annual Athletics Awards Banquet held at The Calvin and Tina Tyler Ballroom on MSU's campus.

Known as “Tiny” by her teammates, Corin Adams continued to play big for Morgan State during the 2007-08 campaign, while leading the Lady Bears to a school record 18 regular season wins, surpassing the 16 wins set the previous season and a new Division I school record of 19 wins on the season. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native earned MEAC Defensive Player of the Year honors and received All-MEAC first team honors. Lady Bear fans were in for a treat when Adams recorded the school's first-ever triple double in a win over North Carolina Central, recording 11 points, 10 assists and 11 steals. In just two seasons, Adams has amassed 930 points and 193 steals, which ranks fifth (5th) all-time at Morgan State. Finishing as the team's leading scorer 21 times, Adam's finished third (3rd) in the MEAC in scoring, while leading the conference in assists and steals. Nationally she ranked third (3rd) in steals and was 77th among the nation's leaders in scoring.

Chad Simpson completed his collegiate career as one of the premier running backs in the nation and has recently been signed as a free agent with the NFL's Indianapolis Colts. As a senior he was selected 2007 MEAC Offensive Player of the Year and was selected to the
American Football Coaches Association Football Championship Subdivision Coaches' All-America First-Team. The Miami product finished as the MEAC's leading rusher and set a single season school record by accounting for 1,402 yards. He ranked 9th in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision by averaging 127.5 yards per game, led the MEAC in scoring (90 pts), and ranked 2nd in all-purpose yards by averaging 161.8 yards per game and became the 4th leading rusher in MSU history by completing his two year career at Morgan State with 2,197 yards.

Head men's basketball coach Todd Bozeman earned the Coach of the Year honors. In just two seasons at the helm, Todd Bozeman has posted one of the most dramatic turnarounds in NCAA history by turning “perennial doormat” Morgan State into a Mid-major power. The Bears reached the No. 17 position in the College Insider Mid-major polls and was ranked as high as No. 7 in the Washington Post Atlantic 11 poll. After a 7-8 start, the Bears reeled off an incredible eight straight victories, equaling its longest winning streak since 1975, and closed out the regular season by winning 13 of their last 14 regular season games. Morgan State men's basketball coach Todd Bozeman was selected the 2008 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. The Bears finished with a 22-11 regular season record, posting the most Division I victories in school history and the best overall record in over 30 years. The team, a preseason pick to finish 4th in the league, won its first-ever MEAC regular season title and advanced to the league tournament championship for the first time since 1977.  Bozeman concluded the year by taking the Bears to their first Division I postseason appearance in history when they earned a postseason tournament appearance in the NIT.
