NEWARK, N.J. (Feb. 14, 2008)-Corin Adams scored a game-high 20 points and Shalane Price added 12 points and a game-high four steals, to lead visiting Morgan State to a 59-45 non-conference victory over New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) on Thursday evening at the Fleisher Athletic Center.
With the victory, Morgan State improved to 2-0 against NJIT and closed out its non-conference slate with an 8-5 record.
Morgan State (14-9), which outrebounded NJIT, 53-40, received a game- and career-high 14 rebounds from Theresa Davis, while Britney Griffin added 11.
The Lady Bears, who never trailed in the contest, held a 14 point (19-5) advantage, following a three-pointer by Brittany Dodson with 10:38 remaining in the opening half. NJIT used an 11-1 run to pull within 20-16 with 5:59 left, but the Lady Bears closed out the half on a 19-3 run, including holding NJIT to just a free throw the last five minutes of the half to take a 39-19 cushion at the break.
Morgan State finished the game shooting 33 percent (18-of-54) for the game and 45 percent (5-of-11) from three-point range. The Lady Bears recorded 10 steals, three shy of their average and committed 24 turnovers.
Jessica Gerald led NJIT (6-16) with 19 points, while Taiwo Oyelola added eight points and 12 rebounds. The Highlanders shot 3-for-24 from three-point range (12 percent) and just 20 percent (12-of-59) from the field.
Morgan State returns to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Feb. 16, when it visits Florida A&M. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Gaither Gym in Tallahassee, Fla.
