BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 11, 2008)-The Morgan State women’s team fell behind by as much as 11 points on three separate occasions in the first half, and battled back to claim a 49-48 victory over South Carolina State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game at Hill Field House on Monday night.

Corin Adams scored 15 of her game-high 19 points in the first half and Shalane Price added 16 points, to lead the Lady Bears to their fourth straight win over South Carolina State. The victory also helped Morgan State conclude its season-long four-game homestand with a 2-2 record, while ending a three-game conference losing skid.

Morgan State reclaimed the lead at 49-46, following two free throws by Adams with 23 seconds remaining. South Carolina State came back with what appeared to be a game-tying basket by Marie Reid in the left corner with 15 seconds remaining, however, Reid had a foot on the line, making it a one point deficit.

Adams, who finished with game highs in assists (nine) and steals (six), would miss front end of a one-and-one, providing life for the visiting Lady Bulldogs. But the ensuing inbound pass would be deflected by Morgan’s Theresa Davis (eight points, nine rebounds) and picked up by fellow Lady Bear Britney Griffin as the final 3.8 seconds expired, to solidify the Morgan State victory.

South Carolina State (8-13, 5-5 MEAC) was led by Reid, who came off the bench and scored a team-high 12 points, while Jenell Moore added 10 points. Kristin Johnson pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs, who fell to 2-7 on the road this season.

Morgan State will head to Newark, N.J. on Thursday, Feb. 14, for a non-conference game at New Jersey Institute of Technology. It will be the final non-conference game for the Lady Bears, who have a 7-5 record against non-conference opponents this season.

Bear Claws: Adams' nine assists gave her 105 for the season, while her six steals gave her 95 for the year. As a team, Morgan State, which entered the contest ranked No. 1 in the nation in steals (13.9), recorded 13 for the game, giving them 305 steals for the season.
