Holmes Selected MEAC Player of the Week

BALTIMORE, Md. – Junior guard Reggie Holmes of Morgan State University was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week, for the week ending December 14, 2008 the league announced Monday.

Yannich Crowder of Florida A&M was selected as the Rookie of the Week while Delaware State's Arturo Dubois was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Holmes (G, 6-4, 185, Jr., Baltimore, Md.) recorded 29 points and six rebounds in the Bears win over DePaul. He connected on 9-of-21 baskets including 5-for-9 from behind the 3-point arc in Morgan State's first victory over a member of the Big East. He also added two steals and one blocked shot in the victory. Holmes is currently ranked 5th in the MEAC in scoring by averaging 14.5 points per game.

Other top players of the week included redshirt freshman Kevin Thompson. The Baltimore product collected a career-high 12 boards in the Bears 79-75 win over DePaul. It marked the third time Thompson has posted double-digit rebounds and he is currently ranked 8th in the MEAC by averaging 6.6 rebounds per game.
The Bears, who are 4-6 and 1-0 in the conference, resume their schedule when they travel to California to compete in the 6th Annual Shamrock Office Solutions Classic. The Classic is December 27-28 and will be hosted by St. Mary's at McKeon Pavilion. The tournament field includes William Jessup, San Jose State, Morgan State and host St, Mary's. Tournament action will begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday evening with Morgan State and William Jessup taking the court.
