DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Morgan State (2-5) completed play in the 2008 Glenn Wilkes Classic with a 71-57 loss against 2008 Wisconsin Green-Bay (2-2) at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla. Sunday afternoon. The Phoenix forced the Bears into just 17 percent shooting in the second half and 30 percent for the game.

It was a low scoring contest throughout the early going, as the teams were tied at 12 eight minutes into the contest. The Phoenix then extended the defensive pressure and built a 26-16 lead over the next four minutes. Terry Evans hammered home a two-handed slam and Bryquis Perine had a layup off back-to-back steals to cap the flurry.

Morgan State made a charge in the latter stages of the first half and jumped on top for the first time in more than 10 minutes, with 48 seconds left prior to intermission. The Phoenix regained the lead heading into the locker room, however, as Chop Tang buried his second 3-pointer of the half from the right baseline with :26 remaining. Tang had 12 first-half points, while his counterpart in the interior, Randy Berry, totaled nine.

In the second half, Morgan State missed 18 of its first 19 shots and Green Bay held the Bears scoreless for nearly seven minutes. That enabled the Phoenix to run off 13 straight points and expand its lead to 52-39. Morgan State shot just 6-of-35 in the second half and made 20-of 66-tries in the contest. Green Bay again was outstanding from the line, converting 28-of 30-opportunities.

Marquise Kately led the Bears with 14 points and eight rebounds. Reggie Holmes added 11 points and Kevin Thompson and Troy Smith had six points each.

Tang finished with a game-high 16 points and nine rebounds, while Berry and Mike Schachtner finished with 15 apiece for the Phoenix.

Morgan State will now have six days before its next game. The Bears now face another road test at Ole Miss Saturday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m.
