Adams’ Career-High 27 Points Leads Lady Bears to 87-54 rout of Norfolk State

NORFOLK, Va. (Jan. 14, 2008)-Morgan State’s Corin Adams’ scored 18 points in the second half to notch a game- and career-high 27 points and Britney Griffin added 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting, to give the visiting Lady Bears an 87-54 victory over Norfolk State, in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game at Echols Hall on Monday evening.

Brittany Dodson added 13 points and Jasmine Sellers connected on 4-of-6 from behind the three-point arc to finish with a career-high 12 points, as Morgan State, improved to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in MEAC play for the second consecutive season.

Morgan State erupted with a 10-0 run, in part of a 24-6 run to start the second half and extend its cushion to 63-27, following a three-pointer by Sellers at the 12:09 mark. The Lady Bears then used another 10-0 spurt capped off with a jumper by Aaries Reed, giving the guests their largest lead of the game, 86-47 (39 points) with 2:08 remaining in the contest.

The guests jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, but the Spartans regrouped and pulled to within five points at 17-12, following a jumper by Dalton with 11:28 left in the opening half. Morgan State then closed out the half with a 22-9 run to take a 39-21 halftime lead.

Griffin led all scorers with 10 points in the first half on 5-of-6 shooting, while Adams and Dodson added nine and seven points, respectively. Sellers, who was a perfect 2-for-2 in the first half from behind the three-point arc, added six points.

The Spartans (2-10, 0-3 MEAC) were led by Genor Dalton and Raychele Payne, who had six points each.

The Lady Bears, who forced 37 turnovers for the game, 19 of which came by way of steals, received a game-high seven steals from Tamara Rogers, while Adams and Reed added three steals each.

Norfolk State was led by Payne’s 11 points and Dalton finished with 10. Tiffany Gadsden chipped in with nine points a game-high four blocked shots and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds for the Spartans.

Morgan State, which has played its last seven games away from Hill Field House, will return home for its MEAC home opener on Saturday, Jan. 19, when they play host to Florida A&M at 2 p.m. It will be just the third home contest for the Lady Bears this season and the first of the New Year.
