Men’s Tennis Falls At Loyola, 5-2

BALTIMORE, Md (March. 13, 2007)—The visiting Morgan State men’s tennis team was dealt a tough 5-2 loss at local foe Loyola in a non-conference match at Butler Courts on Tuesday afternoon.

Loyola (3-3) got things going when its No. 1 doubles team of Scott Gannon and Ben Epstein defeated Joaquin Turley and Disa Mhembere, 9-7. Morgan regrouped as Juan and Mauricio Ortiz teamed up to win the No. 2 match, 8-6 over Loyola’s Rob Palliser and Tim Koch. However, the Greyhounds claimed the doubles’ point, as Matt McDaniel and Chad Morrow earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory by default.

After losing the first singles match, Mhembere and Matthew Townes recorded back to back wins for the Bears. Mhembere defeated Epstein in a No. 2 match 6-3, 6-2, while Townes who his No. 3 match 6-4, 6-2 over McDaniel to tie the score at 2-2. The Greyhounds then won the final three matches, including Peter Koch’s 6-0, 6-0 default victory at the No. 6 single’s position.

Morgan State will return to action on Friday, March 16, when they host Maryland-Eastern Shore at 2 p.m. at Clifton Park Courts.
