Johnson, Moran Earn All-MEAC Honors

Hampton, Va. (Nov. 15, 2007)-Morgan State senior volleyball players, Esther Johnson and Jeniqua Moran received All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference honors, as announced on Thursday night at the 2007 MEAC Volleyball Championship Awards Banquet held on the campus of Hampton University. Johnson was named to the All-MEAC first team, while Moran was a second-team All-MEAC selection.

A native of Fort Collins, Colo., Johnson has now earned All-MEAC honors in each of her four seasons, including her second first-team selection, which she also earned in 2005. This season, Johnson led the Lady Bears in kills with 385 (3.97), which ranked fourth among league leaders. Johnson recorded career highs this season in assists (six) at Maryland-Baltimore County (9/22) and digs (30), coming at Maryland Eastern Shore (10/6). Johnson, who became the first player in school history to reach 1,000 kills as a sophomore, is the all-time leader at Morgan State with 1,746 kills and attempts (5,047) and ranks third in digs, with 1,410.

Moran, who was named to the MEAC All-Tournament Team last season, led the team in service aces (38), blocks (69) and finished second on the team in kills with 350 (3.61) this season, which ranked sixth among league leaders and was seventh in the MEAC in hitting percentage at .264. The Brampton, Ontario native, earned back-to-back MEAC Player of the Week selections (Oct. 22, Oct. 29). She recorded career highs this season in service aces with six against Bucknell (9/5) and assists with six coming against rival Coppin State (11/6) in her final home match as a Lady Bear.

Morgan State begins the 2007 MEAC Championship with a quarterfinal match on Friday, Nov. 16, against Bethune-Cookman at 1:30 p.m. at Holland Hall on the campus of Hampton University.
