BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 5, 2006)—Ivanti Bush tallied a career- and match-high 22 kills and added 10 digs to record her third double-double of the season, while Mandisa Richardson and Esther Johnson contributed 10 and eight kills, respectively, to lead Morgan State to a 3-0 (30-21, 30-19, 30-24) home opening sweep of crosstown rival Loyola in a non-conference volleyball match at Hill Field House.
With the win, Morgan State improved to 2-3 on the young season and now trails the all-time series against Loyola, 11-6, having won four of the last five meetings.
The Lady Bears, which started the match on fire in the first game, put together its best game of volleyball in Game 2, as they finished with a season-best in kills (21) and hitting percentage at .472. Bush also added a match-high four blocks and Vashaye Ellegood contributed with three blocks to help the Lady Bears out block Loyola, 6.5-3.0 as a team for the match.
Morgan State setter Jentri Fullove finished with a career-high 47 assists, while adding six digs and a block. Johnson added a match-high 17 digs, while Ashley Preston had 15.
Rachel Schillinger finished with 10 kills, while Blair Snyder and Karlee Woodward added nine kills apiece for the Greyhounds (1-7). Chrissey Cruz earned a double-double with 31 assists and 11 digs. Kim Gabriel had a team-high 14 digs.
Morgan State will take its two-match winning streak to Brooklyn, N.Y., this weekend when it takes part in the St. Francis Round Robin. The Lady Bears square off against host St. Francis on Friday, Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m. before closing out with Bucknell and Niagara on Saturday.
