DOVER, Del. (Sept. 28, 2006)—Morgan State overcame an 0-2 deficit on Thursday evening to defeat host Delaware State, 3-2 (25-30, 23-30, 30-22, 30-21, 16-14) in a non-league match at Memorial Hall. Ivanti Bush led the Lady Bears with a match-high 22 kills and Jeniqua Moran had 14 kills in the victory. Esther Johnson recorded a double-double with a team-high 13 digs and notched 10 kills, giving her 1,147 career kills and moving her into second all-time at Morgan State.
Delaware State (0-15, 0-1 MEAC), which appeared to be headed for its first win of the season, following victories over Morgan State in Games 1 and 2, was led by Marissa Brady’s 14 kills. Ayana Dyette and Terri Ford added 12 kills apiece for the Hornets. Kinga Muszynski and Laura Huculak each totaled a match-high 18 kills, while Huculak added 10 kills.
After dropping the first two games to the Hornets, in which Morgan committed a combined 25 errors and recorded hitting percentages of -.030 and -.073, respectively, the Lady Bears responded in Game 3 with a game-high 16 kills for a .286 percentage and collected 15 kills in the Game 4 win, to force a fifth game.
Jentri Fullove finished with 41 assists for Morgan State, while Delaware State’s Kyla Michalski had a match-high 52 assists. O’Tasha Williams and Vashaye Ellegood had four blocks apiece to lead the Lady Bears, as both teams recorded 8.0 blocks.
The Lady Bears (7-6) return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 3, when they host Maryland-Eastern Shore for its MEAC opener. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Hill Field House.
