RALEIGH, N.C. -- Morgan State University captured first place during the 2006 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Cheerleading Championship on Super Saturday of the MEAC Basketball Tournament at the RBC Center. Russ Parr of the Russ Parr Morning Show served as the Master of Ceremonies for the day.
The Bears of Morgan State took the top spot in the overall competition and also took home top accolades in the all-female division for the eighth consecutive year and the 11th time overall dating back to 1992. Morgan State’s Chrystal Battle won the MEAC All-Star competition, while teammate Christy Keene finished in second place.
South Carolina State finished second in the overall squad finals but captured the co-ed finals title after finishing third in last year’s event.
Last year’s overall squad champions, North Carolina A&T, were disqualified for a violation of competition rules and regulations. The Aggies exceeded the number of squad participants.
The members of the MEAC All- Star team included Dana Burns and LaToya Jackson of Bethune- Cookman; Monique Walker and Kenisha Watson of South Carolina State; Keene and Battle of Morgan State; Teresa Oxendine and Barron Gates of UMES; Derrick Baker and Kyla Johnson of Delaware State; and Nicholas Seamster and Adryan Williams of N.C. A&T.
