Esther Johnson totaled 12 kills to become Morgan's all-time career kills leader with 1,310.
BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 3, 2006)-Esther Johnson tallied a match-high 12 kills against Delaware State on Friday night to become Morgan’s all-time career leader with 1,310 kills, surpassing Tiffany Oliver (1,309 kills), as the Lady Bears defeated the visiting Hornets, 3-0 (30-17, 30-26, 30-17) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match at Hill Field House.
Johnson, who last season became the first player in school history to reach the 1,000 career kills plateau as a sophomore, also totaled a match-high 13 digs to record her 44th career double-double and added three aces.
Morgan State (18-8, 7-1 MEAC) improved to 8-0 this season at Hill Field House with the victory, and have now won 16 of its past 18 regular-season matches against MEAC North Region opponents, including eight straight.
Jeniqua Morgan added 10 kills, five digs, three blocks and a match-high four service aces for the Lady Bears. Jentri Fullove had 34 assists, five digs, five blocks and added a career-high five kills, while Camille Coleman collected a match- and career-high 10 blocks, as MSU out blocked the Hornets, 13-8.
Delaware State (10-20, 5-4 MEAC) was led by Kinga Muszynski and Ayana Dyette, who each finished with seven kills. Janelle Aupperle had a match-high 11 digs, while Laura Huculak recorded 18 assists. Dyette and Terri Ford led the Hornets with five and four blocks, respectively.
The Lady Bears return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 7, when they visit crosstown rival Coppin State at 7 p.m. at the Coppin Center. It will be the final MEAC match of the season for Morgan State, who with a win can clinch the No. 2 seed in the upcoming league tournament (Nov. 16-18) at Hampton University.
