Morgan Defeats WSSU, Finishes Regular Season with a Perfect 9-0 Mark At Home

BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 11, 2006)-Senior middle hitter O’Tasha Williams closed out her final home match as a Morgan State Lady Bear with a match-high 10 kills and added a match-high four blocks, as Morgan State defeated visiting Winston-Salem State, 3-0 (30-14, 30-10, 30-15) in a non-conference match at Hill Field House on Senior Day.

With the win, Morgan State (21-8) ended the regular season with a perfect 9-0 mark at home, its first undefeated season at home since the 2002 squad finished 8-0. The Lady Bears also closed out the regular season on a five-match winning streak and won 17 of their last 19 matches.

Esther Johnson, Jeniqua Moran and Ivanti Bush each added nine kills, while Camille Coleman chipped in with three and Hilary Tutman notched her first two kills of her career, as Morgan State totaled 43 kills for a .287 hitting percentage, while holding the visiting Lady Rams to just 10 kills for a -.161 hitting percentage.

The Lady Bears also set a season-best 19 service aces, as Johnson led the way with a career-high seven aces. Teneika Fellows, who leads the squad with 55, tallied four aces and Bush notched three aces.

Winston-Salem State (2-31), which joins the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference next season, fell to 0-14 this season against its future MEAC foes. Kendall Sutton led the Lady Rams with three kills and Valentina Pushkina and Lore McBroom added two kills apiece. Stephanie Douthit had a team-high six digs.

Morgan State will now focus on preparing for the upcoming MEAC Tournament (Nov. 17-18) in Hampton, Va. The Lady Bears, who enter the league championship as the No. 2 seed, will face their crosstown rivals, the eighth-seeded Lady Eagles of Coppin State in opening round action on Friday, Nov. 17 at Holland Hall on the campus of Hampton University.
