BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 9, 2006)-The Morgan State women’s volleyball team closed out the first half of its slate against MEAC North region foes, with a  3-0 (30-19, 30-15, 30-22) victory over conference and cross-town rival Coppin State on Monday evening at Hill Field House.

Although the match didn’t count toward the league standings, the Lady Bears finished the first half of the season with a perfect 5-0 record against opponents from the North region. Morgan also remained unbeaten at home this season, improving to 5-0, while extending their current winning streak to seven matches. The victory over Coppin State also marked the Lady Bears’ 36th straight over Coppin.

Ivanti Bush, who earlier in the day was named MEAC Rookie of the Week, and Jeniqua Moran, each totaled a team- and match-high 11 kills. Bush also added two aces and six digs. Nicole Williams had a match-high 30 assists and Ashley Preston led Morgan with nine digs.

The Lady Bears (11-6) totaled 12 service aces, falling four shy of the season-high 16 they had on Sunday against Wagner. Teneika Fellows led Morgan with four aces and Williams added three.

Brittany Arvin led Coppin with 10 kills, while Andrea McGant and Jasmine George each had seven digs. Grace Lyon finished with 21 assists for the Lady Eagles, who fell to 3-14 on the season.

Morgan State will take a few days off as they prepare for the upcoming MEAC Round-Up (Oct. 13-15) in Orangeburg, S.C. The Lady Bears will take on conference members from the MEAC’s Southern region.
