WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 5, 2006)-Ivanti Bush tallied a match-high 22 kills and Jeniqua Moran and Esther Johnson added 17 and 14 kills, respectively, to lead visiting Morgan State past Howard, 3-1 (30-15, 27-30, 30-21, 30-16) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match on Thursday evening, thus spoiling the first athletic event at the newly refurbished Burr Gymnasium.

With the victory, the Lady Bears improved to 9-6 overall and 2-0 in MEAC play, while extending their winning streak to a season-best five matches.

Despite the win, Morgan State committed a season-high 21 service errors for the match and had another 21 errors off of attacks. The Lady Bears finished the match with 68 kills and a .303 hitting percentage, while holding Howard to 33 kills for a .071 hitting percentage.

Howard (3-11, 0-2 MEAC), which dropped its fourth consecutive match, was led by Morgan Maxwell, who recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs. Maxwell also added a match-high six blocks to help the Lady Bison out block Morgan, 8-7.

Morgan’s Jentri Fullove had a match-high 45 assists, while Nicole Williams chipped in with 12. Ashley Preston totaled a match-high 18 digs. Camille Coleman added eight kills on 11 attempts and tallied a career-high .636 hitting percentage. Johnson added 10 digs to collect her 38th career double-double and moved past Ja Nina Lee (1994-98) for fourth-place all-time at Morgan with 925 career digs.

The Lady Bears return to action on Sunday, Oct. 8, whey they host Wagner in a non-conference match. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Hill Field House.
