Morgan State University Basketball Tips-Off Season on October 13 with Midnight Madness

BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Morgan State University men's and women's basketball programs will tip-off the 2006-07 season with a “Midnight Madness” event on Friday, October 13. Activities will begin at 10:00 p.m. in Hill Field House on the University campus, with the gymnasium doors opening at 9:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to MSU students and the general public.

Door prizes will be offered by along with deejayed music, basketball contests, and raffle will also be available. There will be several give-a-ways throughout the night during the Madness.

Once the doors open at 9:30 the excitement really begins! Performances will be given by the MSU Band, MSU Cheerleaders and the Morganettes Dance Team.  The introduction of the Bears’ men's and women's basketball teams will take place at 11:00 p.m., followed by an intersquad game.   

The Morgan State men's basketball team enters the 2006-07 with a new coach and a bunch of newcomers. Head coach Todd Bozeman takes over the helm of a team that posted a 4-26 overall record in 2005-06. 

Coach Bozeman returns senior guard Joseph McLean (Edgewater Park, N.J./Willingboro) and senior center Timothy Berkley (Richmond, Va./Meadowbrook), who led the Bears in scoring and rebounding respectively. McLean led the team in scoring (14.7 ppg/5th in the MEAC) and assists (2.38 apg) last year, and was second on the team in rebounding with 5.3 boards per game. Berkley scored 7.5 points per game and led the team in rebounding, grabbing 6.0 per game, while leading the team in blocks (26/6th in MEAC).

The MSU women's basketball team, led by second-year head coach Donald Beasley returns four starters and welcomes eight newcomers to the 2006-07 squad. The Lady Bears will look to improve on last season’s 5-23 overall mark and will turn to the leadership of senior guard Whitney Johnson (Detroit, MI/Mercy).
