Walaa Elsir and the Lady Bears gave a valiant effort.
The Morgan State Women's Tennis team was defeated by Towson University in a home encounter Thursday afternoon. The Lady Bears participated in both singles and doubles matches.
The Bears started off positively in the first of three doubles matches. The MSU duo of Ashley Harper and Walaa Elsir won a close match 8-6. The second match saw Imani Willis and Renae Alleyne suffered at the hands of their opponents, losing 8-1. Aidah Rasheed and Kemi Osunsan also faced defeat, falling 8-0.
In the singles competition, MSU's number one seed Harper started things off promisingly once again, with a straight set victory (6-3,6-4). This was followed by another MSU victory, this time the strokes of Elsir doing the job. She was able to overcome her opponent (6-2,2-6,6-3). The Lady Bears' good fortune came to an end there however, as seeds 3-6 lost their matches. Number three Willis lost in straight sets (6-0,6-0), number four Alleyne lost (6-1,6-1), number five Rasheed lost (7-5,6-4), and the long day was completed with the defeat of Osunsan (6-1,6-0).
