Andre Prince and the MSU tennis team put up a fight, but fell to UMBC on Friday afternoon.
MSU Men suffer a defeat at the hands of University of Maryland Baltimore County, Friday afternoon at the Morgan State University Tennis Complex.
The Morgan Men (2-15, 1-7 MEAC) fell to UMBC 6-1 in a tough match-up. UMBC made the first strike grabbing all three doubles points.
Marcus Ngbea and Dia Campbell fell first @ the #2 doubles spot, 8-3. Joaquin Turley and Matthew Townes lost their #3 doubles match 8-5. Soon after, Andre Prince and Mike Harper fell 8-6 in the #1 doubles match.
With UMBC up 1-0, the singles matches began. The #5 singles match between Matthew Townes of MSU and Dave Jackson of UMBC, wrapped up early. Townes retired in the second set after dropping the first 0-6. The retirement put UMBC up 2-0.
Dia Campbell of Morgan at the #6 singles spot was defeated 6-1, 6-3. This left UMBC up 3-0. Morgan had to win all the remaining matches to pull out the win.
However, Morgan lost the next three matches, sealing the victory for UMBC. Joaquin Turley of MSU fell 6-2, 6-2 at the #2 singles spot. Morgan's Andre Prince put up a fight, but fell 6-4, 7-5, in the #3 singles spot. The Bears' Michael Harper at the #4 spot, made the second set tough for UMBC's Lief Hollowell. However, Hollowell won 6-0, 7-5.
Marcus Nqbea of Morgan, grabbed the only Bears' win at the #1 singles spot. Ngbea defeated James Tyler of UMBC 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).
