BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Morgan State scored the first basket of the game, but after that, it was all Virginia Tech as the Hokies rolled to a 77-49 non-conference victory over the Bears on Friday night at Cassell Coliseum.

With the loss the Bears dropped to 0-5 on the season, while the Virginia Tech Hokies improved to 5-1 overall. MSU will prepare to square-off with cross-town non-conference rival Towson on Monday, Nov. 28th. 

Sophomore guard Timothy Mathis scored the first basket of the game for Morgan State, but Tech ripped off the next 11 points and never looked back. The Hokies led by as many as 21 in the first half and led by 19 at halftime.

Coleman Collins scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the first half alone, propelling the Hokies to the big lead. Collins finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.

Zabian Dowdell scored nine in the first half as he and Collins teamed to outscore Morgan State. Dowdell finished with 13 points, while Deron Washington led the Hokies for the game with 16. Jamon Gordon added 11 and A.D. Vassallo chipped in 12 off the bench as the Hokies placed five players in double figures.

Tech outrebounded the Bears by a 37-26 margin, and limited the Bears to just 41.3 percent shooting from the floor and a dismal 3-for-13 shooting from 3-point territory (23.1%).

Andrew Lee led Morgan State with 15 points (5-8 FG). He was the lone Bear in double figures. Tim Berkley paced the Bears on the glass with a team-high five rebounds along with nine points an assist and a blocked shot.

Monday night's game at Towson will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
