The Morgan State men's basketball team closed out the holiday weekend by rattling Florida A&M, 74-59, in front of 827 fans at Hill Field House.

MSU guard Sam Brand led all scorers with 19 points as the Bears improved to 3-3 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and 5-11 overall.

Joseph McLean's 3-pointer to end the half left Florida A&M trailing 37-33 at the break.

MSU's second half performance was highlighted by stifling defense and an offense spearheaded by Brand. The senior scored 12 of his game-high 19 points during a stretch in which the Bears outscored the Rattlers 18-6 to blow the game wide open.

Senior Chris Grant collected one of his best games of the season as he came up just shy of recording a triple-double. Grant scored 8 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and dished out a career-high 9 assists.

The Bears shot 50 percent from the field (25-50 FG) and 83 percent from the free-throw line as they connected on 14-of-17 from the stripe. MSU also recorded its best rebounding performance of the season by outrebounding the Rattlers by a 35-23 margin.

MSU sophomore Karanvir Aujla recorded a career-best 14 points (5-12 FG), while sophomore center Timothy Berkley hauled down a game-high 7 rebounds and scored 8 points.

Florida A&M (3-10, 2-4) was led by Michael Harper. Harper was deadly from long range as he nailed 5-of-7 3-pointers and scored 18 points. Jonathan Kelly chipped in 10 points and four rebounds while point guard Tony Tate was held to 3 points and was 0-for-10 from the floor.

MSU will attempt to extend its winning streak when they travel to take on Md-Eastern Shore on Monday, January 24th.
