Morgan Remains Unbeaten In The MEAC, Defeats UMES Hawks

Box Score

The Lady Bears survived a 1st Game Battle Royal and went on to defeat the MD-Eastern Shore Hawks 3-0 (31-29, 30-24, 30-22) in a big MEAC match-up at Hill Field House on Thursday night.

Morgan State scored a big win over the defending MEAC North Division champions. UMES (7-9, 2-1) came into the match unbeaten in conference and looking to defeat MSU for the third consecutive time.

The biggest game in the match may have been the first game. It was a back and forth affair, and the Hawks assumed a 29-27 lead and appeared headed toward a Game 1 win.  However the Lady Bear defense came up with back to back blocks to tie the game at 29-29. Morgan scored two more points, including a game winning kill by Adria Boyd to put the Hawks away and give MSU the Game 1 victory.

Morgan State used the Game 1 momentum to seize control of the match. The Lady Bears controlled things in both Games 2 & 3 to put the match on ice.

Morgan got a 10 kill effort from Esther Johnson, 9 kills from Ashley Alexander, and a 7 kill outing from Korinne Lewis.

Jana Milin led the way for UMES with 10 kills.

Morgan State returns to action on Tuesday, October 5, 2004 when they return to Hill Field House to take the cross-town rival Coppin State Lady Eagles.  The match is scheduled to start at 7:00p.m.
