Morgan State has never loss to Hampton in volleyball, and the Lady Bears kept the record intact with a win over the Lady Pirates in Hampton, VA Tuesday night 3-2 (30-28, 24-30, 27-30, 30-19, 15-11).
The Lady Bears are now 20-0 all-time against Hampton University, but they faced a strong challenge from a Hampton team looking to pull off the upset. Morgan had to win the last two games of a two hour 5-game match to put away the Lady Pirates.
MSU (8-12, 1-0 MEAC) used a balanced attack and good defense to secure their first MEAC win of the season.
Esther Johnson led the way for the Lady Bears with a 14 kill performance. Ms. Johnson got offensive help from Korinne Lewis who contributed 11 kills and Ashley Alexander who had 10 kills and 4 service aces.
The Lady Pirates were led by Chavanca Hoskins who had a big match. Ms. Hoskins had 17 kills and 14 digs.
Morgan State hit .231 for the match, while Hampton had a .190 hitting percentage.
The Lady Bears return to action on Thursday, September 30, 2004 to tangle with the defending MEAC North Champion Hawks of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.Â
