MSU Wins 4th Match In A Row, Lady Bears Drop The Loyola Greyhounds

Box Score

The Morgan State Lady Bears (7-8, 0-0 MEAC) extended their longest winning streak of the season to four consecutive matches with a Tuesday night decision over Loyola College 3-1 (30-24,30-22,22-30,30-25).

The MSU volleyball squad is on a roll. The Lady Bears won the Providence Friar Invitational Tournament last weekend, and continued their strong play with an impressive win over Loyola at home on Tuesday night.

The Lady Bears had a strong performance both offensively and defensively.  They were able to control the match with the exception of a Loyola resurgence in Game 3.

MSU's 16 total team blocks and 11 service aces were a big reason for the decision.

Loyola (3-9) had difficulty getting into their offense, and were limited in their ability to sustain a prolonged attack. The Morgan cause was led by Esther Johnson and Korrine Lewis who each accounted for 14 kills apiece.  Johnson added 19 digs to her effort, while Lewis enjoyed a .343 hitting percentage. Vashaye Ellegood led all Morgan hitters with a .373 percentage.

Junior Adria Boyd contributed 12 kills to the cause.

Junel Jeffries handed out 54 assists, and freshman Ashley Preston led the way with 21 digs.

The Lady Bears return to action this weekend when they travel to Greensboro, NC to participate in the UNC-Greensboro Invitational.
