The Morgan State Lady Bears earned their 2nd consecutive win of the Providence Invitational Tournament by defeating Gardner-Webb 3-1 (30-17,28-30,30-25,30-26) on Saturday.
The Lady Bears got off to a big start in the match, defeating the Bulldogs 30-17 in the first game. After losing the 2nd game 30-28, MSU went on to sweep the final two games to win the match.
The Lady Bears got plenty of fire power from freshman Esther Johnson who pounded out 22 kills and picked up 18 digs to lead the way. Ms. Johnson also added 3 total blocks in a very well-rounded performance.
Mandisa Richardson clubbed 11 kills for Morgan State, and also had 11 digs.
The Lady Bears probably would have won by a more comfortable margin had it not been for 17 service errors in the match.
Garnder-Webb was led by Audra Harrison who had 11 kills.
