The 2004 Summer Olympic Games In Athens, Greece Carry Morgan Flavor

Many of the world's best athletes are gathered in Athens, Greece for the Olympic Games.  Virtually every summer Olympics in recent years has had some Morgan State flavor. 2004 is no exception.

Former MSU track & field standout Dadi Dennis is a member of the Olympic squad from his native Haiti.  Dennis was a hard working athlete during his undergraduate days at MSU, and that hard work had paid off with his earning an opportunity to compete against the world's best in the 400m for Haiti. While at MSU Dennis ran the 400m in a time of 47.68. However under the continued coaching of MSU's Neville Hodge, Dennis has lowered his time to 45.94 to qualify for the Olympics.  Dadi is scheduled to run the 400m Dash in Athens, Greece on Friday, August 20th.

Another former MSU track standout is competing for her native land.  Phillipa Arnett ('97) will be competing for the Bahamas. Arnett was a young lady who was a consistent force for Morgan track & field during her days as a Lady Bear. She is scheduled to run in the 100m Dash on Friday, August 20 and in the 4x100m relay next week.

MSU track & field Head Coach Neville Hodge is making another trip to the Olympics.  Coach Hodge has been to the Olympics both as an athlete and as a coach.  Hodge is in Athens to coach the team from his native Virgin Islands.  One of Coach Hodge's Virgin Islands athletes, Laverne Jones will participate in the 100M & 200M. On the men's side, Adrian Durant will compete in the 100M Dash on Saturday,  August 21st.

We encourage you to keep an eye open for the Morgan flavor as the Games of the 28th Olympiad continue in Athens.
