MSU's Horn, Andrews Take Home Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Year Honors At Awards Banquet

BALTIMORE, MD -- Morgan State University junior track & field star Ashley Horn and senior center Aaron Andrews were recognized as the male and female student-athletes of the year at the 18th Annual Athletics Awards Banquet at the McKeldin Center ballroom.

Horn, a native of District Height, Maryland, was undefeated in the Shot Put during the indoor season, and finished the season as the “Most Outstanding Female Performer” at the MEAC Outdoor Championships. Horn was one of the most consistent performers in the NCAA during the entire 2003-04 season.

Andrews led the Bear’s basketball team in points (296), scoring average (11.0), defensive rebounds (96), total rebounds (167), rebounding average (6.2), blocked shots (13), and shooting percentage (.617). His attitude and leadership skills were a big factor for the improvement in Morgan State hoops in recent years.

Head basketball coach Alfred “Butch” Beard earned the Coach of the Year honors.  During the 2003-04 season Coach Beard was named Co-MEAC “Coach of the Year” for the job he did in leading his squad to a competitive finish in the MEAC standings.
