Nichelle Gibbs was part of MSU's 1st place 4x400M Relay team.
The Morgan State University Women's Track & Field squad had a big weekend at the Duke Invitational. MSU won the 4x400M Relay and several ladies had strong individual performances.
The meet was hosted by Duke University on Friday and Saturday at Wallace Wade Stadium on the Duke campus in Durham, NC. The field was expansive and included; Duke, North Carolina State, Rutgers, Miami (Ohio), North Carolina, Georgetown, Virginia, Charlotte, East Carolina, Minnesota, Seton Hall, Richmond, St. Joseph's, Penn State, St. Francis, Monmouth, Boston University, High Point, Brown, Campbell, Lynchburg, Brevard, Albany, UMES, South Carolina State, Norfolk State, VMI, and Coastal Carolina.
The Morgan State women's 4x400M Relay team won the event in a time of 3:44.84. The Lady Bears finished in front of the University of North Carolina (3:45.48) and the University of Minnesota (3:45.68).
The MSU 4x400 team consisted of Romona Modeste, Mariama Gondo, Kady Joseph, and Nichelle Gibbs.
Mariama Gondo burned up the track with a strong performance in the 100M Dash. Ms. Gondo earned a 4th place finish in a field of 55 with a time of 12.05. In the 200M Dash Gondo took home fifth place honors in a time of 24.46.
Kady Joseph had a 25.71 time in the 200M Dash. Ms. Joseph had a 4th place finish in the 400M Dash in a time of 55.37.
Janessa Givens finished the 100M in a time of 13.43. She had a 27.16 finish in the 200M Dash.
Ashley Horn had another solid performance in the Shot Put. Ms. Horn finished 5th with a throw of 13.68M.
In the 100M Hurdles Kelsi Russell finished in 15.73.
MSU freshman Takeithia Jordan had an outstanding meet. Ms. Jordan finished 5th in the Long Jump with a leap of 6.01M. "T J" finished 14th overall in the High Jump with a leap of 1.62M. Her Triple Jump effort of 11.00M was good enough for 16th place overall.
In the 800M Run Rhonda Auguste was a 14th place finisher in a time of 2:21.02.
Nichelle Gibbs finished the 1500M Run in a time of 4:55.73, and Rhonda Auguste came home in 5:01.98. Sabrina Washington finished in 5:34.31.
In the 800M Run, Gibbs finished in 2:14.98.
The MSU Women's 1600 Sprint Medley team was the 5th place finisher in a time of 4:03.60.
