The Morgan State University Lady Bears bounced back to take the nightcap after dropping the first game of a doubleheader to Howard University on Tuesday afternoon.
In a doubleheader played on a warm Tuesday afternoon, Morgan State (13-21, 8-8 MEAC North) looked uninspired in a 9-0 loss to the Lady Bison of Howard University (10-24, 4-14 MEAC North) in Game One. However in Game Two, MSU flipped the script and hammered Howard 8-0 behind the 4-hit shutout pitching of senior Grace Glenn.
The Lady Bears looked completely uninterested in the Game One opener. Howard pounded out 9 hits and took full advantage of four Lady Bear errors to put MSU away by a 9-0 final score.
HU was led by Debbie Grey who went 3 for 4 and scored 3 runs. Tracey Hunter went 2 for 3 for the Lady Bison and knocked in 3 runs.
Howard great a strong pitching performance from Kelly Posey who held Morgan in check on only 3 hits.
The Lady Bison got off to a 4-0 lead in the first 3 innings and never looked back. A couple of runs in the 4th inning put the Lady Bison in complete command. HU put things on ice with 3 runs in the 6th inning as they defeated Morgan by run rule 9-0.
Kelly Posey got the win for Howard. Keyana Smith took the loss for MSU.
In Game Two it was all MSU.
The Lady Bears sprinted out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning. The Lady Bears pushed across another run in the 2nd inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Morgan State put together a 3-run 4th inning to take a 6-0 lead and control of the game.
In the bottom of the 5th inning Grace Glenn tripled to right center field to bring home Veronica Brown and Melinda Coffee. That gave the Lady Bears an 8-0 lead and a run-rule victory.
Grace carried a big stick. She went 3 for 4, knocked in 3 runs and scored 2 more.
Ms. Glenn also got the win, while Kelly Posey took the loss.
The Lady Bears return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they take on George Mason in a doubleheader at MSU.
