Box Score

The Morgan State University Lady Bears (3-24, 3-15 MEAC) dropped the finale game of the regular season to the Coppin State College Eagles Friday night.  MSU was defeated 72-42 in front of 2,195 fans at MSU's Hill Field House.

The Lady Eagles (17-10, 13-5 MEAC) used a strong inside presence and good defense to keep MSU in check.  The Lady Bears struggled offensively, hitting just 20% of their shots in the first half and only 22% for the game.

Coppin State also enjoyed a significant edge in rebounding.  They pulled down 58 rebounds to only 41 for MSU.  Coppin used 24 offensive rebounds to get plenty of easy scoring opportunities.

CSC sprinted to an early 22-9 lead in the games opening minutes, and never really let the Lady Bears back into the contest.  The Lady Eagles held a commanding 38-17 cushion at the half.

Coppin cruised in the 2nd half, as the Lady Bears could not find any offensive consistency.

MSU had only one player in double figures.  Freshman Whitney Johnson had 12 points on 5 of 13 shooting from the field.

The loss means MSU will either finish in 10th or 11th in the MEAC final regular season standings.

Coppin was led by Leisel Harry who scored 13 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.  Sherrie Tucker had a 16 point night, and Antoinette Reese had 13 for the Lady Eagles.

Morgan State's next game will come in the MEAC Tournament at either 11:00am or 1:00p.m. on Monday, March 8, 2004.
