Lady Bears Compete At HBCU Indoor Track Classic

The Morgan State University Indoor Track & Field squad competed at the Historically Black College Track Classic at the Prince George's Sports Complex over the weekend. 

Several Morgan State athletes had strong performances in the meet featuring Black Colleges and Universities from around the nation.  The participating institutions included; Morgan State, Hampton, Howard, North Carolina A&T, Norfolk State, Tennessee State, Savannah State, North Carolina Central, Shaw, Virginia State, Bethune-Cookman College, Lincoln University, and Jackson State.

Morgan's Romona Modeste set a new meet record when she breezed home in a 1st place time of 24.84 in the 200M Dash.  Kady Joseph finished 4th in her section in a time of 25.86.  Ms. Joseph also had a encouraging performance in the 400M Dash, finishing 2nd in her section in a time of 57.51.

Ashley Horn continues to do what Ashley Horn usually does; She won another Shot Put competition.  Ms. Horn took top honors with a toss of 13.68M.

Morgan's Mariama Gondo finished in a tie for 3rd in the 60M dash. Ms. Gondo came home in a time of 7.70.

Victoria Richardson was a 5th place finisher in her Triple Jump flight.  Ms. Richardson recorded a leap of 9.55M.

Nichelle Gibbs looked good in the 800M Run, taking 2nd place honors with a time of 2:22.78.  MSU's April Butler won her section in a time of 2:25.10.  And Morgan's Rhonda Auguste had a time of 2:25.17. 

Brittany Robinson was impressive in the High Jump with a leap of 1.65m and a 2nd place finish.  Takeitha Jordan was tied for fourth in the competition with a jump of 1.60M.

In the Long Jump competition Morgan's Kelsi Russell won her flight with a 5.53M performance.

In the men's competition MSU's John Cargo was the top Shot Put specialist at the meet. He won the event with a toss of 15.08M.  Frederick Bellenger placed 3rd with a throw of 14.79M, and Quincy Collymore took fourth in the flight with a toss of 14.53M.

Morgan's James White continued his consistency in the High Jump. He finished in a tie for top honors with a 2.03M effort.

Adam Casey was impressive in the 200M Dash, winning his section in a time of 22.49.

Darrell Walker took home 2nd place honors in the Pole Vault with a jump of 4.21M.

In the Long Jump Javar Gholason  was 2nd in his flight with a leap of 6.36M.

Leroy Herman and Jason Harris won their sections in the 800M Run.  Harris finished in a time of 1:58.43 while Herman came home in a time of 1:58.97.

MSU's Hoisea Jones and Louis Jones were solid in the 400M Run.  Hoisea won his section in a time of 51.64 and Louis was right behind him in a time of 51.93.   Morgan's Daryl Young finished 2nd in his section in the 400M Dash with a time of 50.38.

Nathaniel Lettman had a productive weekend.  Mr. Lettman won his section in the 200M Dash in a time of 22.63.  Right behind Lettman in the 200M Dash was MSU's Brian Daniel who finished in a time of 22.67. Lettman placed 4th in the 400M Dash with a time of 51.32.

Kevon Holder was fifth in the finals of the 60M Dash in a time of 6.99.  He finished the 200M dash in 23.40.

James Forman had a leap of 6.34M in the Long Jump for MSU.
