BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Morgan State fell on the road to Virginia Tech 67-54 in the third meeting between the two schools Monday night. Hokie guards Zabian Dowdell and Carlos Dixon helped hand MSU its sixth road loss of the season.

Dowdell finished the night with a game-high 17 points (6-8 FG), 10 of which came in the second half. Dixon added 12 points and led the Hokies on the boards with eight (8) rebounds as the Hokies improved their record to 6-4.

Morgan State (3-7, 1-1 MEAC) entered the game coming off a solid win against non-conference opponent UMaine. But tonight the Bears struggled to make shots, especially during the second half. MSU shot 31% from the floor and knocked down just 1-for-9 from the free throw line after the break.

Trailing 36-30 at halftime, the Bears couldn’t seem to take the lid off of the basket. The Hokies kept Morgan at bay as they outscored the Bears 31-24 and shot 8-for-10 from the line to help pull out the win.

MSU's Aaron Andrews once again played much bigger than his 6-5 frame. The senior led the Bears by recording his second double-double of the season by scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Christopher Grant and Sam Brand pitched in 10 points each and Karanvir Aujla chipped in eight (8) points.

Virginia Tech won the battle on the boards by outrebounding Morgan 39-32, and held the Bears to a dismal 35% (21-60 FG) shooting in the game. Virginia Tech completed the game by connecting on 24-of-50 (48%) from the floor and knocked down 14-of-19 (74%) from the stripe.

The Bears will be back in action when they travel to tip-off with Wright State Thursday (Dec. 30).
