The Morgan State Lady Bears (16-18, 6-4 MEAC) pushed UMES to the limit, but lost a tough 5-game match to the Lady Hawks of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Thursday night 3-2 (33-31, 26-30, 20-30, 30-27, 14-16).
MSU was looking for a clean sweep over the Hawks, but could not pull it out in the end. The Lady Bears jumped out to a quick start by winning the first game, but the Hawks recovered to win games 2 and 3.
The Lady Bears won the 4th game, but lost a tough and tight game 5 and lost the match.
Freshman Esther Johnson led the Lady Bears with 18 kills to go along with 15 digs. MSU's Mandisa Richardson had 15 kills, 11 digs and 7 block assists. Korinne Lewis had 10 kills for the Lady Bears.
UMES was led by Jana Milin who collected 26 kills.  Â
